Thanks to our TrackR Insiders community, we have heard first-person accounts of the innovative ways our customers are using their TrackR devices including placing them on beloved pets, TV remotes – even house slippers!
One of our TrackR Insiders was kind enough to share his incredible story about how TrackR has helped him in his daily life. Check out Ian’s story.
About five years ago, I was diagnosed with an Arteriovenous Malformation in my brain. After an initial life-saving surgery to remove the tumor, the fluid the surgeon used to help repair the area in a secondary surgery back-flowed into an unintended area of my brain resulting in hydrocephalus – aka a buildup of fluid in my brain. Unfortunately, the fluid build up resulted in a stroke.
For the next couple of weeks, I was totally blind and had no short-term memory. I had to learn how to walk again, and I relied on family and caregivers to help me with daily tasks. After months of rehabilitation, I have come a long way since those frightening weeks in the hospital.
I feel very lucky to have survived, I continue to have blindness in the left peripheral of my eyes and short-term memory issues. The memory issues are especially challenging and often catch me off guard.
Learning to adapt to a new life with TrackR
Due to these new challenges, I found my way to TrackR. I purchased a multi-pack of TrackR bravo devices and have found countless ways for these devices to help me function with greater confidence in my new disabled life.
I recall one recent situation where TrackR really came in handy. Whenever I travel, I attach a TrackR bravo to both my suitcase and my backpack, just in case I put either down and absentmindedly walk away.
One time I was taking a trip on the public ferry and checked my suitcase. It was a pretty hectic time to travel due to the holiday season. After I got off the ferry, exhausted and caught up in the hustle and bustle, I completely forgot about my checked suitcase and rushed to catch my ride.
About five to ten minutes on the road I had that horrible “OMG” moment. Instead of panicking, I just pulled out my phone, opened the TrackR app and saw that my suitcase was still back at the ferry terminal.
By the time we turned around and got back to the terminal, my bag was no longer on the carousel, but I could see that an employee had placed my bag in the lost and found room. I was so glad to have TrackR to help me in such a stressful situation!
Given the new challenges I face with my new “disabled” existence, TrackR gives me a much appreciated sense of security. I’m still finding new and creative ways to use this device to my advantage.
